A Message from the Temple President
This month, during Sivan, we celebrate the Festival of First Fruits, or Shavuot, from May 16-18th. We have three services and some study planned. Please see the emails and web calendar for further date and time information. On the first day of the Shavuot services, we will read from Exodus 19-20. This Torah section tells the story of Moses receiving the Ten Commandments on Mount Sinai. The people Israel entered the wilderness and camped out before Mount Sinai. They were there when Moses climbed up Mount Sinai. While Shavuot services will be available on the ZOOM format, I ask you to consider returning to the “the wilderness” of community gathering and attend some or all the services at your Temple Beth Sholom, to hear and receive the Ten Commandments once more. If you have received the vaccines and are so inclined why not venture forth and give in-person services a try in our well-spaced auditorium? We are also asking you to bring canned fruits or packaged nuts for the Ceremony of First Fruits/Bikkurim service. These fruits and nuts will be donated to a worthy cause following Shavuot. (Please also dress for being outside during the Sunday evening study session, weather permitting. We will “camp out before Mount Sinai”, so to speak.)
Starting this May, you will hear about the Sibert-Bernstein Event planned for June 23. This is a major fundraising event of the Temple and I ask you to please participate by purchasing one or more tickets and take a chance at winning thousands of dollars! No more than 200 tickets will be sold. Please contact the person who usually sells you your ticket to reserve/purchase your favorite number or contact the Temple office and ask to purchase your ticket(s)! The Sibert-Bernstein Event will be conducted only on ZOOM-only basis again this year.
Please also take note of the open enrollment for Temple Beth Sholom’s Honor Roll. The Honor Roll is displayed on the wall across from the Boyer Auditorium. It was established over 50 years ago to raise funds for Temple sponsored programs and services. Please call the office to join! The annual donation is $108.00 dollars, or $1800.oo for a one-time Permanent Honor Roll membership.
Finally, as spring is “bustin’ out all over”, please have a good Yom Tov!
